From 21 to 25 October 2026, Amsterdam once again becomes the capital of electronic music. Amsterdam Dance Event is celebrating its 30th edition, having started in 1996. Anyone in the scene either goes or at least watches closely, because few weeks of the year show so clearly where club culture and the music business are heading.
The key facts
- Dates: Wednesday 21 October to Sunday 25 October 2026
- ADE Pro, the industry conference, runs during the day from 21 to 24 October
- The club and festival programme runs across all five nights
- 2025 record: 600,000 visitors, almost 3,500 artists, more than 1,200 events at over 300 locations
Official figures for 2026 will only come after the festival. Be careful with travel sites already quoting visitor numbers for this year, because they do not come from the organisers.
Trend 1: Afro House gets curated
Afro House is no longer a footnote in Amsterdam. DGTL is bringing eight ADE events to NDSM Warehouse and Kromhouthal from 22 to 25 October. On Saturday, South African DJ Shimza curates a full DGTL night for the first time, with Âme DJ, Desiree, Bedouin, Arodes and Stoffela. Mixmag Netherlands describes it as a showcase of Afro House's growing global influence. Black Coffee is listed at the Ziggo Dome on 21 October in the ADE agenda published by festivalfans.nl.
What stands out is how the lines are blurring. Shimza represents the South African roots, while names like Bedouin and Âme lean towards the melodic and organic side. That blend is exactly what is working on dancefloors in 2026. Splice had already named Afro House its sound of the year in January, after sample downloads rose 778 percent in 2025.
Trend 2: Day becomes night
It is striking how much of ADE now happens in daylight. DGTL is adding its Generator stage to the daytime programme for the first time. On Saturday, Lane 8 and his label This Never Happened play a daytime event at Kromhouthal, and on Sunday Folamour closes the week with an all-day-long set. That fits what Berlin's Clubcommission published in August 2026: 57 percent of clubs see guests staying for shorter periods, and audiences are planning their nights more deliberately. Starting earlier reaches the people who want to be fresh on Monday.
Trend 3: Record revenue and the question of who earns it
ADE is also an industry gathering, and the industry has never been bigger. According to the IMS Business Report 2026, electronic music was worth 15.1 billion US dollars worldwide in 2025, up 7 percent on the year before. Germany remains the largest market. At the same time, the Clubcommission study found that 39 percent of Berlin clubs ended their financial year at a loss. A growing industry with struggling clubs is a contradiction that will come up in plenty of conversations in Amsterdam, on panels and at the bar.
Trend 4: AI is no longer hypothetical
Few topics occupy producers and labels as much right now as artificial intelligence. In July 2026, streaming service Deezer reported that more than half of all tracks uploaded each day are fully AI-generated, around 90,000 a day. Hardly anyone listens to them. In April, they made up 1 to 3 percent of all streams, and Deezer flagged 85 percent of those streams as fraudulent.
Meanwhile, major labels have reached agreements with AI companies. Universal and Warner settled with Udio and signed licensing deals in late 2025, and Warner also settled with Suno. In April 2026, according to Music Business Worldwide, Udio signed its fourth major licensing deal, this time with Kobalt. Sony had not reached a deal with Udio at that point.
For club culture, that is an interesting twist. The more music comes out of a machine, the more valuable everything becomes that only works live: a DJ reading the room and a crowd reacting to it. You cannot stream a night out.
What we are taking from Amsterdam
Every year, ADE offers a small-scale preview of what is coming on a larger scale. In 2026, a lot points the same way. Sounds are blending, parties start earlier, and guests would rather pay for a real experience than for a long night without character. For a Frankfurt event brand like Red Tree, that is good news. Six days after ADE wraps up, we celebrate our first night in Berlin with Black & Blood.
